• Monthly Server Patches – If you’re running a local Windows 2008, 2012, 2016, or 2019 server; Microsoft releases critical and important security patches for these several times per month. Are you taking the time to apply these monthly during your closed hours ? If not, you are not in compliance or making a best effort to secure your data. • Border Firewall – Your office router (often provided by the Internet Service Provider) does a decent job of blocking intruders who use port scanners to find openings into your network. However, this uses a static list of ports to block and the intruder’s programs are designed to disguise itself as legitimate traffic in order to make it’s way in. A border firewall on the other hand analyses the nature of the scan and intelligently blocks the source or pattern of the scan before it can disguise itself and make it’s way into the network. Law offices are juicy targets for these hackers. Some firewalls are complicated to program and maintain, but not the ones we use from Untangle.
